If you suffer a lot from heel spur, taping your foot with kinesiology tape can be incredibly pleasant. Heel spur is a common cause of heel pain that can have a huge impact on your daily life. Simple activities like walking or standing can quickly become a challenge. Fortunately, taping your foot is an effective way to relieve pain and support your foot. Taping your foot the right way reduces pressure on the heel and helps the recovery process. In this blog, we will explain to you step by step how to do this, what materials you need and why this technique works so well.
What is heel spur?
Heel spur is a hooked bone growth under the heel. This does not cause pain. Heel spur is often confused with tendinitis. This is an irritation of the tendon plate under the heel. This condition is incredibly painful and can interfere with your daily life, work and while playing sports.
Why tape your foot for heel spur?
Taping your foot for heel spur has several advantages. It reduces pain by reducing tension on the tendon plate and the heel. It also supports the arch of the foot, which helps relieve pressure on the heel. The recovery process is promoted as blood circulation is stimulated, and waste products are properly disposed of. Finally, the supportive effect of the tape ensures faster recovery.
How do you tape your foot correctly?
With heel spur, the best way to tape your foot is with kinesiology tape or medical tape. Below, we explain step by step how to do this.
- Make sure the skin is clean, dry and free of creams or oils.
- Cut two strips of tape 5 to 7 cm wide and about 25 cm long.
- Cut around the corners so that the tape does not come off too quickly
- Tension the foot by stretching the toes.
- Stick the first strip under the toes and then stretch the tape tightly to the heel.
- Is the tape too tight? Then it won't stick in the hollow part of your foot. Keep an 80 per cent stretch.
- Rub the tape for 30 seconds to activate the glue.
- Apply the second strip in the hollow of the foot. Do this without stretching.
After application, wait 2 hours before showering or exercising. The tape can stay on for up to 7 days, even when showering.
