What to do in case of narrow leg syndrome?

Annoying when you've heard you have narrow leg syndrome. But fortunately, there is also good news! Because this is pre-eminently the condition where not the doctor, but mainly you, are in control of the treatment. So put on those walking shoes, smoke that last cigarette and eat some vegetables. But what exactly is narrow leg syndrome?
Peripheral arterial vascular disease (PAV) or colloquially ‘narrow leg syndrome’ is a condition that should definitely be taken seriously. Multiple sclerosis involves narrowing of arteries in one or both legs. This restricts the supply of oxygen-rich blood and prevents muscles in the leg from doing their job properly, resulting in pain. Taking a break makes the pain disappear again.

Many people aged 50 or older suffer from narrow leg syndrome

Heart or vascular disease has a great impact on the mental well-being of the patient in question. Psychological problems such as anxiety and depression lurk and are common among people with cardiovascular disease. About 20 per cent of these patients struggle with such problems. A psychologist can play a role in alleviating and preventing these symptoms. Fellow sufferers' contact is also valuable. It is therefore important to get a correct diagnosis with a treatment method and the importance of compliance. Want to know more about this? Then listen to the podcast on narrow leg syndrome here!

What can you do about narrow leg syndrome at home?

Two things are essential with narrow leg syndrome: stop smoking and start walking. Walking training involves walking, preferably daily. This will improve the blood flow in your legs. Walking training under the supervision of a physiotherapist is even more effective than just advising you to walk more. The running training consists of a personal running schedule based on the running test to train two to three times a week. Good running technique is important here. Together with various other exercises to improve fitness, the result will be a decrease in pain and an increase in maximum walking distance. The effect is noticeable after about three months and optimal after at least six months.
