Cartilage Problems
Suffering from cartilage issues in your knee? At Podobrace, you’ll find various aids that provide support for these complaints.
Types of cartilage in the knee
There are two types of cartilage in the knee: meniscus cartilage and articular cartilage. Meniscus cartilage is a shock-absorbing tissue located between the two joint surfaces, while articular cartilage lines the ends of the joint bones. When cartilage wears down, the cartilage layer becomes very thin, brittle, or may even disappear entirely. This can cause significant pain. Unfortunately, cartilage wear is an irreversible process. Cartilage osteoarthritis is often related to age — starting around the age of 40, your body has more difficulty removing acidic waste products. As a result, acidic residues remain, which can lead to osteoarthritis. The body no longer produces new cells, causing reduced flexibility and aging of the joint.
Osteoarthritis symptoms, prevention and treatment
Cartilage osteoarthritis is a painful condition. It often develops due to aging, but can also be caused by being overweight or previous conditions such as fractures or injuries. The body can no longer repair the damage. You can slow down the cartilage breakdown by reducing acidic substances in the body, engaging in moderate-intensity exercise for at least 30 minutes daily, and eating healthy food. Pain can also be reduced by wearing a brace. A knee brace provides both support and warmth, which is essential for knee osteoarthritis.
